April 19, 2019, Prishtina – The Preparatory Team for the Establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission held a public consultation with legal professionals, judges, prosecutors, lawyers and other public officials.
The public consultation panel was composed of Besim Kajtazi, Nora Ahmetaj and Arben Loshi, all members of the Preparatory Team for the Establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Initially, they clarified the fundamental concepts of Transitional Justice, then participants briefed on the experiences of others, and also talked about the President’s initiative for the Truth Commission in Kosovo and why it is needed.
Analyzing the purpose of the initiative, there were thoughts that the most productive would be to have institutes for reconciliation, truth, history, which regularly conduct research and come up with consistent results.
It was said during the discussion that reconciliation can only come through a fair, impartial and rapid trial.
The legal professionals were of the opinion that the Commission’s establishment is reasonable and necessary because the crimes that have been committed must necessarily receive the merited punishment because it gives closure to the victim and paves the way for other processes such as reconciliation and progres.
