Public consultation with the family members of missing people

Prishtina, March 25th 2019 – On the occasion of March 24th, International day on the Right to the Truth, a public consultation was held with the family members of the missing people of all communities in Kosovo, in relation to grave violations of human rights and victim’s dignity.

Chairman of the Preparatory Team for the establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Ardian Arifaj, said that this category deserves a greater degree of attention.

The very attention and care deserved by this group, the establishment of this Team, were one of the very first initiatives of the President, undertaken in order to articulate the needs of all communities and different citizen groups, “said Arifaj.

The family members of the missing people of all communities’ state that there must be reconciliation, but not in a sense which includes pardoning.

“We agree that there should definitely be a reconciliation, but this does not include pardoning,” said Bajram Qerkinaj, Chairman of the Coordinative Council of the Association of the Family Members of the Missing People.

This public hearing was organised by the Resource Centre on Missing People.
