World leaders congratulate President Thaçi on Independence Day

Prishtina, February 17, 2017 – Leaders from around the world have congratulated the President of the country, Hashim Thaçi, on the ninth anniversary of the declaration of independence of Kosovo.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, in his letter of congratulation to President Thaçi, has written that Kosovo’s sovereign, multiethnic and democratic future lies in a stable and prosperous Balkan region that is fully integrated into the international community.

“On behalf of the United States, I am pleased to congratulate the people of Kosovo on your independence day on February 17. The partnership between our countries is based on shared values and common interests. A sovereign, multiethnic, democratic Kosovo’s future lies in a stable and prosperous Balkan region that is fully integrated into the international community. The United States celebrated with all Kosovo citizens the historic gold medal win during the Olympic Games in Brazil, as well as you soccer team’s inaugural season in the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA). We look forward to continuing our broad and deep cooperation, focused on supporting increased democratic and economic development, strengthening rule of law in Kosovo, resolving disputes with neighbors, and countering violent extremism and foreign terrorist fighters”, has written the US President in his congratulatory letter.

Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, with her wish for independence, has also conveyed the for the happiness of the people of Kosovo in the coming year.

“It gives me a great pleasure to send Your Excellency my congratulations on the celebration of your National Day, together with my best wishes for the happiness of the people of Kosovo in the coming year”.

Whereas, the President of the Swiss Confederation, Doris Leuthard, in her congratulatory message has expressed confidence that the mutual trust and friendship that our two countries enjoy will deepen even more.

“The celebration of the Independence Day of the Republic of Kosovo is a most welcome opportunity for me to extend to Your Excellency on behalf of the Swiss Federal Council our sincere congratulations and our best wishes for the prosperity of your country as well as for your personal health and wellbeing. I am convinced that the mutual trust and friendship enjoyed by our two countries will deepen in the coming year. Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration”, has written in her congratulatory letter Doris Leuthard, President of the Swiss Confederation.

The Austrian leader, Alexander Van der Bellen, in his telegram sent to President Thaçi, wished for well-being and a prosperous future for Kosovo and its citizens.

“On the occasion of the National Day of the Republic of Kosovo I take great pleasure in conveying to you my warmest congratulations. I seize this opportunity to extend my best wishes for your personal well-being as well as for a prosperous future of the Republic of Kosovo and all its citizens”, has written the Austrian leader.

Whereas, the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in his congratulatory message has written that the relations between our two countries will continue to recognize more extensive perspectives at political and economic level.

“On the occasion of the national day, I am pleased that on behalf of the Italian people and on my own behalf to convey the most sincere congratulations for the welfare of the Kosovar friend people. The relations between our two countries will continue to recognize more extensive perspectives at political and economic level. Italy fully supports Kosovo’s efforts to strengthen its democratic institutions and the implementation of reforms that lead the country towards a deeper European integration. For this purpose – democratic growth and stability – Italy contributes decisively also through its participation in international missions such as EULEX and KFOR. Kosovo itself is also giving an important contribution to regional stability, particularly through the continuation of the dialogue with Serbia. Confirming once again the stable friendship and closeness of Italy with your country, I express my best congratulations on your welfare and the welfare of the Kosovar friend people”, wrote the Italian President.

President Thaçi, has also been congratulated by the first of the Hungarian state.

The head of the Hungarian state, János Áder, in his congratulatory message declared of being honored to send his cordial greetings to President Thaçi, and the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo on the occasion of the celebration of Independence Day on February 17.

“I am honored to offer my heartfelt congratulations to you and the people of the Republic of Kosovo as you celebrate your Independence Day this February 17. I am delighted to note that last year our bilateral ties have been further strengthening and along with the intense political contacts we have created a framework to improve our economic co-operation. Hungary remains a committed supporter of your European future and continues to assist Kosovo in realizing her Euro-Atlantic aspirations. I wish you continued success and wisdom in performing the duties of your responsible position”, has written the Hungarian President János Áder, in his telegram.

A hearty congratulation on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Republic of Kosovo President Thaçi has also received by the Croatian President, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović.

In her congratulatory message, Grabar-Kitarović says that the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Croatia are bound by lasting friendship, many common interests and goals, cooperation in many fields. In this spirit, the Croatian president has invited President Thaçi on an official visit to the Republic of Croatia.

“On behalf of the citizens of the Republic of Croatia and on my own behalf, I am pleased to extend my sincere congratulations on the occasion of the Independence Day of Kosovo and the Anniversary of the declaration of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as sincere wishes for the welfare and new successes of your country and the friendly people of Kosovo. The Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Kosovo are bound by lasting friendship, many common interests and goals, cooperation in many fields, and especially commitment to the promotion of prosperity and welfare of our citizens. In this spirit, I am honored to invite you to pay an official visit to the Republic of Croatia. I believe that this visit will give new impetus for the development of the already close relations between our two countries and provide an opportunity to consider new proposals for their additional enrichment. Our countries’ cooperation in the strengthening of stability, security and cooperation in Southeast Europe holds a prominent place. The Republic of Croatia strongly supports the Republic of Kosovo’s future in the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and is prepared to continue to provide assistance and transfer knowledge and experience from its Euro-Atlantic integration process. Hoping that I will have the opportunity to be your host in the Republic of Croatia soon, accept, Mr. President, the assurances of my highest consideration and my very best regards”, has written the Croatian President, Grabar-Kitarović.

On Independence Day, President Thaçi, has also been congratulated by the President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanović.

In his congratulatory message, President Vujanović has written that the relations between Montenegro and Kosovo are an example of good neighborly cooperation in the region.

“On behalf of the citizens of Montenegro and my own, I extend my cordial congratulations on the occasion of the national holiday, February 17, the Independence Day of Kosovo. I wish stability and further advance of the Republic of Kosovo, along prosperity for its citizens. The relations of Montenegro and Kosovo are an example of good neighborly cooperation in the region. They greatly contribute to its stability and a prosperous European future for the citizens of all of its countries. I am confident that we will continue with joint efforts in that direction. Esteemed President, I wish you good health and success in performing your high duty”, has written Vujanović.

His Majesty, the King of the Belgians, Philippe, has also congratulated President Thaçi, on the occasion of Independence Day.

“On the occasion of celebrating the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Kosovo I convey to you, Your Excellency, my best wishes for welfare and health for you and your citizens”, wrote King Philippe in his telegram.

Whereas, His Majesty, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, wishes welfare for the people of Kosovo in his telegram sent to President Thaçi.

“On the occasion of the National Day of the Republic of Kosovo I would like to convey my most sincere congratulations to Your Excellency the best wishes for your health and happiness, and for the well-being of the people of Kosovo”, wished the King of Sweden.

His Majesty the King of the Netherlands, Willem-Alexander, in his message of congratulations sent to President Thaçi has forwarded the best wishes to the people of Kosovo.

“On the occasion of your National Day I extend to Your Excellency my congratulations and my best wishes for the well-being of the people of Kosovo”, has written the King of the Netherlands.

His Excellency, the President of the United Arab Emirates, Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has expressed to President Thaçi and the people of Kosovo the most cordial congratulations on the occasion of Independence Day of the country.

“I am pleased to express to Your Excellency and your friendly people my most cordial wishes on the occasion of Independence Day of your country. Please convey to your people the message that the people of the United Arab Emirates share the joy with you on the occasion of the celebration of this anniversary of Independence. We wish your Excellency and your own people welfare, prosperity and sustainable success”, it is said in the congratulatory message of the President of the United Arab Emirates, Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, sent to President Thaçi.

A felicitation on the occasion of the anniversary of Kosovo’s independence was also sent by His Excellency, Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, simultaneously Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid Al- Maktoum, and in his congratulatory message it was written: “I am pleased that on the occasion of Independence Day of your country, to convey to Your Excellency and your friendly people the warmest wishes, wishing you welfare, progress and success under your wise leadership”.

The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in his telegram conveys the wishes for well-being, prosperity and progress.

“I am pleased that on the occasion of Independence Day of your country, to convey to Your Excellency and your friendly people the warmest wishes, wishing you welfare, progress and success under your wise leadership”, has written in his congratulatory message the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates.

Among the other congratulatory letters for the Republic of Kosovo that have been received so far is another letter of congratulations on Independence Day, that President Thaçi has received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of San Marino.

“On the occasion of the Independence Day, we would like to convey to You our warmest congratulations and our best wishes for Your personal well-being, for the prosperity, progress and welfare of the friendly people of the Republic of Kosovo”, it is said in the congratulatory letter of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of San Marino.
