Vllahiu: The agreement unblocks the situation

Arbër Vllahiu, political advisor for media and public relations of the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga gave a statement to the media regarding the agreement reached today for the north of Kosovo.

Below we bring the full statement of spokesman Vllahiu:

The agreement reached between the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and the Government of the Republic of Serbia, mediated and approved with KFOR, is good news for the citizens of both countries, is a reasonable act that unblocks the created situation in the three northern municipalities of Kosovo and the border points 1 and 31.

Once again we stress that the decision of the Government for the application of the measures of reciprocity in the exchange of goods with Serbia and the order of the Prime Minister of Kosovo to send a special police unit of Kosovo to enable the Kosovo customs to implement the measure of clearance and control of goods that enter in our territory, was a just and coordinated action and also legal and legitimate for the sovereign state of Kosovo.

Blocking streets and the attempt to dispute of Government’s measures and the attempt of disrespecting law and order, threatened to lead a part of the territory in a humanitarian crisis and the irritation of relations between the citizens of this part of the territory of the Republic of Kosovo. The commitment of the European Union and the United States of America, in order that the parties return to dialogue and find appropriate and useful solutions, specifically the commitment of KFOR  that within its mandate to preserve the inviolability of borders and maintain peace and stability in the region and prevent ethnic riots and within the mandate given by the institutions of Kosovo, was productive, that enabled the achievement of the agreement, which ensures free movement of people and goods in the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo. This is principle of democracy and it benefits all citizens regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation.

The institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, the President of the country also are committed that all matters with Serbia also, like with other states, be resolved through dialogue and agreements. The agenda in Brussels, that the parties carry the dialogue with the mediation of the EU, is the only alternative to a full normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia as two sovereign states that have a common future in the Euro-Atlantic integration path and can pass this path with success only by cooperating and helping each other by resolving all issues and practical problems by the model of European standards.
