The President: Kosovo has economic potential, the cooperation with the Diaspora to be oriented towards development

Prishtina, November 25, 2017 – The President of the state, Hashim Thaçi, has participated at the opening of the Albanian Diaspora Economic Forum in Prishtina.

The President has called this an exemplary initiative and said that everyone’s work should now focus on the economic development of our state.

“The diaspora, throughout history, has been one of the main factors in every development in Kosovo. Thanks to the multilateral contribution of the Diaspora, the people of Kosovo managed to keep alive the social organization and solidarity”, said President Thaçi.

He said that in February next year we mark the tenth anniversary of the declaration of the independence and Kosovo is no longer in the phase of survival or reconstruction, but is a state in development.

“Our cooperation with the Diaspora should change in a qualitative manner and it should be oriented towards development, no longer to the survival of Kosovo. We are consolidated as a state, internally and internationally. Everyone’s work now needs to focus on the development of our state, the youngest country with the youngest population in Europe, as a country with great economic potential that is expected to be exploited”, said President Thaçi.

At the opening of the Albanian Diaspora Economic Forum, the Head of State said that since the declaration of independence in 2008 the positive trend of economic growth has been preserved.

“We have invested in infrastructure, building roads and highways. Since we have built the highway with Albania, our economic exchange between our countries has increased for several times. With the European Union we have been working on facilitating the conditions for business registration and operation. We have adopted the Law on Strategic Investment to facilitate the conclusion of investment contracts that the Government considers of strategic interest for the state and society. Our commitment to this direction is also confirmed by the World Bank assessment, which each year puts Kosovo up higher in the report of doing business”, said President Thaçi.

As a result of economic reforms, President Thaçi has said that the signing of the SAA and the accession of Kosovo to the Millennium Challenge Corporation Program.

He said there has also been invested in education by opening high education centers throughout Kosovo because our youth had to become a specialized workforce and ready to compete with the workforce in Europe with its skills and professionalism.

“All these create opportunities for a comprehensive development of Kosovo”, said President Thaçi.

He added that Kosovo has developed and changed a lot, but something has remained unchanged.

This is the fact that whenever we have come together, according to President Thaçi, we have realized every dream and every wish.

That is why this forum is valuable, he said, because all businessmen come together to work and develop Kosovo.

The Albanian Diaspora Economic Forum is organized by USAID in partnership with the Albanian Diaspora Business Network.
