The President calls for greater commitment to the protection of the rights of crime victims

Prishtina, October 30, 2017 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, participated at the opening of the Crime Victim Rights Week, which is organized under the auspices of the Office of Chief State Prosecutor and the US Embassy in Kosovo.

President Thaçi said that since the declaration of independence, through the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo and the relevant legislation that was subsequently issued, Kosovo has expressed the commitment and dedication to the creation of a state of equal citizens, which will guarantee the rights of each citizen, the civil liberties and the equality of all citizens before the law.
 
“Kosovo has adopted very advanced legal provisions that promote and protect the rights of crime victims. The law on the compensation of crime victims and the establishment of appropriate mechanisms that are necessary for the implementation of this law is one of these provisions”, said President Thaçi.
 
He said that they have gathered today to show the commitment to the protection of the rights of crime victims.
 
“Our commitment to the protection and advancement of the rights of crime victims is not only during this week or a certain week, but it must be day-to-day”, said President Thaçi.
 
He said that the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo are and should be placed in the creation of the conditions and opportunities that guarantee protection and assistance for the cime victims, as well as support in the realization of their rights.
 
“As the President of the Republic of Kosovo, I take the opportunity to invite all the competent authorities, that besides the constitutional and legal obligations to ensure that crime victims to be treated with dignity and professionalism”, he said.
 
President Thaçi has pledged to continue his commitment for Kosovo to promote, protect and advance human rights in general, including the rights of the victims of crime.
 
“Our commitment we will never lack to guaranteeing the rights for this category of citizens, to whom it has happened that during a moment of their life to be victims of crime”, said President Thaçi.
 
He said that there is a need for greater commitment of all to have no more crime victims in our country.
