The President and the Prime Minister write to all the leaders of the UN member countries and international organizations

Following the opinion on the independence of Kosovo announced by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the President of Republic of Kosovo Dr. Fatmir Sejdiu and Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi have sent a letter to the leaders of the United Nations (UN) member countries and international organizations respectively, such as the Organization of Islamic Conference, the Arab League, the CARICOM, the Organization of American States, the OSCE, the Council of Europe, etc. The letter has also been sent to Catherine Ashton, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union.

The letter, which calls for the recognition of Kosovo by all the UN member countries that have not done so thus far, also urges the UN member countries to reject i.e. vote against the Serbia-sponsored resolution due to be delivered for a voting in the weeks to come.

“In the course of new developments that have followed the ICJ opinion – which has confirmed the legality of declaration of Kosovo’s independence – and assuring all the UN member countries of our special consideration, we urge them to reject the resolution sponsored by Serbia as an absolutely unnecessary action and an unacceptable criticism towards the ICJ”, the letter reads, inter alia.
