The entire region must set its pace in the process of integration

The President of Republic of Kosovo, Dr. Fatmir Sejdiu received today Mr. Jean Asselborn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Luxemburg.

Following a meeting with Mr. Jean Asselborn, which discussed relations between the two countries, President Sejdiu thanked Mr. Asselborn for the support that Luxemburg has provided to the Republic of Kosovo during important processes that have led to the independence of our country and in the course of later processes, with their presence in international missions, such as that of KFOR, as well as with their investments so far and their guarantees for further investment.

President Sejdiu said that, in the face of a global financial crisis, Luxemburg has pledged to support our country with 50 million euros. He said that it has also promised to support our country in terms of the EU joint policies, in the process of its integration, as well as in ensuring a further international recognition for Kosovo.

President Sejdiu and Mr. Jean Asselborn emphasized that the entire region must set its pace in the process of integration, that good relations must prevail between sovereign countries and that values and ethnic diversities of each country must be appreciated.

“Kosovo is committed to implementing President Ahtisaari’s Proposal and to achieving its political objective of promoting and implementing modern policies and standards accordingly”, President Sejdiu pointed out.

On the other hand, speaking of good relations between the two countries and the future of the Balkans in Europe, Luxemburg’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Jean Asselborn, said that the European Union supports any step that may contribute to stability in the region and that may help Kosovo and bring Serbia closer to Brussels.

“2010 will be very important to Kosovo, because the opinion due to be announced by the International Court of Justice might serve as an opportunity to Serbia to change its position regarding Kosovo, as aspirations of both Serbia and Kosovo depend on European integration and they both aspire to become members of the European Union, like all other countries of the region”, Mr. Jean Asselborn emphasized.
