The battle of Koshare overthrew the pyramid stone of the border which divided the Albanians for a century

Koshare, April 9, 2018 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, paid homage today to the martyrs’ cemeteries in Koshare and participated in the commemorative gathering, in the framework of the traditional “Ditët e Shqipes” manifestation in honor of the Koshare battle.

President Thaçi said that every beginning of the year, especially in March, April and May, Kosovo marks painful and proud events of sacrifice and resistance, linked to the years of the 1998-1999 war.

President Thaçi called these years the decisive years where Kosovo’s fate was finally resolved, fulfilling the centuries-old dream of many generations – the liberation from the rule of Serb administration, police and army.

“On this 19th anniversary of the liberation and 10th anniversary of the Independence of Kosovo the massacres of Likoshan and Çirez, the KLA Epopee in Prekaz, the Dukagjini Epopee, the massacre in Krusha, in Celina, Izbica and Rezalla were remembered as well. Similar events will be noted and remembered with respect and sorrow in the coming months, reminding us of the fact that Kosovo’s freedom and independence has had a high price”, he said.

The Head of State has said that we proudly remember today the 19th anniversary of Koshare’s battle.

“We recall the glorious war of the boys and girls who joined the ranks of the Liberation Army strongly after the announcement of the general mobilization by the KLA Headquarters. In Koshare, the KLA testified the fact that it had entered a higher stage of resistance. With human and technical capabilities it was able to face Serb forces in the frontal war. As a result of tactical and strategic preparation, with the acts of unprecedented determination and courage, a historic victory was achieved – the collapse of the pyramid stone of the border that had divided the Albanian lands for a century”, said President Thaçi.

He added that with the highest state and national respect today, we honor the sacrifice of soldiers and officers fallen in the war for freedom.

“We remember the heroes Sali Çeku, Agim Ramadani, Xhemajl Fetahu. We express the highest honors for the invalids and veterans of the Battle of Koshare and Pashtrik”, he added.

The Head of State stressed that Kosovo is marking the tenth anniversary of independence and the 19th anniversary of liberation.

These major goals, according to President Thaçi, could not be achieved without great sacrifices, without the clear political vision for Western democratic values and without the support of the United States of America, the EU and NATO.

“Kosovo, despite challenges, is a successful state building story. We will always be grateful to the friend states which supported us even in the stages of internal consolidation and international affirmation. Kosovo continues to persist in its goal of Euro-Atlantic integrations”, he said.

President Thaçi added that Kosovo’s independence has become a factor of peace and stability in the region, despite the fact that the neighboring state, Serbia, still hampers our membership in the UN and other international organizations.

President Thaçi has said that Kosovo has no other orientation than the Euro-Atlantic one.
