Sejdiu: Parallel structures must be dissolved immediately

The President of Republic of Kosovo, Dr. Fatmir Sejdiu, received today the Head of EULEX, Mr. Yves De Kermabon and the Deputy International Civilian Representative, Mr. Fletcher Burton, with whom he discussed latest actions that Serbia has undertaken through its parallel structures with the aim of destabilizing Kosovo.

In particular, President Sejdiu expressed his concern about the recent actions by Serbia, which he said constitute a direct investment in the parallel structures and their illegal activities. Opposing the latest decision by Serbia on the appointment of judges to work in parallel courts in Kosovo, President Sejdiu pointed out that Republic of Kosovo has a unitary judicial system and that any attempt to undermine this system is absolutely inacceptable and unlawful.

President Sejdiu asked for the support of EULEX and the International Civilian Office in undertaking urgent measures to dissolve the parallel structures and to prevent other destructive actions by Belgrade. He also urged them to keep on supporting Kosovo’s institutions in the fields of rule of law and security.

“Republic of Kosovo remains committed to implementing Ahtisaari’s Proposal in its entirety and this necessitates the dissolution of parallel structures. All Kosovo institutions are required to take appropriate measures to meet this requirement, in cooperation with international partners” – President Sejdiu underlined.

President Sejdiu praised the cooperation with EULEX and expressed his readiness to strengthen this cooperation further to the benefit of Republic of Kosovo and its citizens.
