Sejdiu: An evaluation of positive developments that Kosovo has gone through

The President of the Republic of Kosovo Dr. Fatmir Sejdiu, Prime Minister Thaçi and Minister of Foreign Affairs Skender Hyseni, returned today from their official visit to Washington, where they signed documents of accession of our country to the major international financial institutions, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB).

In a press conference held at Pristina Airport, President Sejdiu and Prime Minister Thaçi considered that the visit in Washington and the signing of our country’s accession to these two international institutions has a historic value.

“This visit has a historic importance because of the very reason that Kosovo has received a significant support from other countries in acceding to these two international institutions and that these countries have made it clear that only sovereign countries are eligible to become members of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank” – President Sejdiu said.

Further on, President Sejdiu said that this is also an evaluation of positive developments that Kosovo has gone through over this year and a half of its independence and of its crucial commitment to proceed with reforms, integration processes and development of good and democratic policies conducive to building a democratic Kosovo belonging to all its citizens.

During the visit in Washington, the delegation of our country, headed by President Sejdiu, had a meeting with the US Deputy Secretary of State, James Steinberg, who assured them of United States’ continuous support to Kosovo.
