Gjilan, November 27, 2017 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, together with his Albanian counterpart, Ilir Meta, and the Mayor of Gjilan, Lutfi Haziri, have unveiled today the statue of the National Hero, Idriz Seferi.
President Thaçi said that in Gjilan the statue of a great leader of the wars for the protection of Albanian lands in a forty-year period is being placed.
“The statue of the distinguished commander and strategist Idriz Seferi is being inaugurated on the 90th anniversary of his death, on the eve of the 105th anniversary of the Independence of Albania. The best qualities of the fighter, the strategist and the popular tribune, Idriz Seferi tested in the protection of the Albanian lands, with the weapon in the hand, based on the political and military platform of the Albanian League of Prizren”, stated President Thaçi
The Head of State added that Idriz Seferi was distinguished for courage, bravery, and readiness for sacrifice, just like the great men of that time, like Sulejman Vokshi, Mic Sokoli, Abdyl Shkupi, Ali Ibër Neza, who never turned back from the main goal, the preservation of the Albanian lands from fractioning and realizing the idea of independence.
“With tireless patriots of the Albanian cause, like Hasan Prishtina, Haxhi Zeka, Isa Boletini, Bajram Curri and other figures of the time, Idriz Seferi gave a historic contribution to the 1908 – 1912 uprisings that led to the Independence of Albania”, said President Thaçi.
According to President Thaçi, he is an example of the implacable leader, who did not stop uprising activities for a single moment.
“With the wisdom of a popular tribune, Idriz Seferi was also distinguished in assemblies, where he managed to reconcile people in conflicts, with the idea that the fate of the homeland stands above individual interest”, he said.
Based on his constitutional powers, President Thaçi has formally announced Idriz Seferi, Hero of Kosovo.
President Thaçi congratulated all Albanians on the 105th anniversary of the Independence of Albania.
