President Thaçi welcomes the agreement on Power Plant “New Kosovo”

Prishtina, 13 December 2017 – President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, welcomed today the agreement reached between the Government of Kosovo and the American investor “Countour Global” on “New Kosovo” energy project implementation.

A meeting held with representatives of “Countour Global”, where Prime Minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, was present, confirmed the reaching of the agreement on project implementation inception terms.

The agreement finalisation and signing it is expected to take place on December 20 in Pristina.

President Thaçi expressed his satisfaction with reaching the agreement and opportunities it brings to Kosovo's economy.

“It is an important investment for the energy sector, but also for Kosovo's economic development. This will bring energetic stability, but also opportunities for other fields of the economy,” stated President Thaçi.

“Now that we are marking the 10th anniversary of the country independence, we are also marking the achievement of the country's full energy independence”, added President Thaçi.

Earlier today, President Thaçi met with leaders of the state institutions, political leaders and the Inter-Ministerial Group for “New Kosovo” Project, whereby confirmed full political and social consensus to the project.

The Founder and Executive Director of the US company, Contour Global, Joseph C. Brandt, extended his gratitude to President Thaçi for the reception and cooperation so far by ensuring that TPP “New Kosovo” project will be implemented by fully adhering to contractual obligations and in full compliance with all international rules and standards.

“New Kosovo” is the largest private investment in the history of Kosovo, that took a decade of engagement, and amounts to1.3 billion euros.

Throughout the new power plant construction period, we are expecting to open about 10,000 new jobs. The project will be implemented in accordance with the EU environmental and social Directives and will ensure a stabile electric energy supply to the country.
