President Thaçi: The National Renaissance created a powerful foundation for our historical conscienceMacedonia / Skopje, November 22, 2018 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, participated in the marking of the 110th anniversary of the Albanian Language Alphabet in the Macedonian capital.
President Thaçi has said that one hundred and ten years ago, our renaissancists at the Congress of Manastir determined the alphabet of the Albanian language
“Today we remember this achievement as a moment when it is determined not only what letters we will use, but also to which club of nations the Albanians, our society, our states will belong. After the Albanian League of Prizren, the Congress of Manastir was the most important historical event for us. It was precisely the National Renaissance the one that created a powerful foundation for our historical conscience, without which nor the interpretation of the past, nor the meaning of the present, and neither the designing of the future can not be done”, said President Thaçi.
The Head of State said that our culture and civilization are proud today of the names that in the darkest centuries cultivated the Albanian writing.
“Five hundred years before the Congress of Manastir, the Albanian culture was violently disconnected from the roots of Western civilization. But, our renaissancists spread around the world, but also those who operated domestically, never stopped attempts for the political and cultural emancipation of our nation. They operated in various cultural centers, used different alphabets and different language variants. But they never gave up on the goal of spiritual and cultural unity as a fundamental component of the national Albanian being”, said President Thaçi.
As true patriots, President Thaçi said that the delegates of the Congress of Manastir, with scientific objectivity and in the light of the European affiliation of the Albanian nation, rose on the fragmentary logic, on regional psychology, on religious affiliation and made a decision of national interest.
Today, after one hundred and ten years, President Thaçi said that we are proud of the decisions of the Congress of Manastir.
“We are proud of that visionary spirit that identified our cultural being where it always belonged, historically, geographically, as a people of ancient Indo-European origin and language, in the values of Western culture”, he said.
President Thaçi said that with this alphabet the document of Independence of Albania was written on November 28, 1912.
He added that the Declaration of Independence of Kosovo on February 17, 2008, was also written in it.
“With it, the history of our liberation armies and the history of civil resistance throughout the Albanian countries, has been written. The alliances with the advanced democratic world, with the Western democracies, the USA, the EU and NATO have been created with it as well. With this alphabet, which produces a culture of tolerance and friendship with neighboring people, the construction of good neighborly relations in the Balkans of the European perspective, is also being written”, said President Thaçi.
The Head of State has emphasized that Manastir has been, is and will remain eternally the Capital of the Albanian Language Alphabet.
“This fact brings us even closer to the state of Macedonia. Let me also congratulate you here on the new position of Albanian language in the Republic of Macedonia. For the officialization of the Albanian language in the Republic of Macedonia a great contribution has also been given by the current generation of Albanian politicians. Great contribution has also been given by you are here today. Therefore, this year’s manifestations are more special as the Albanian language has now become an official language in the Republic of Macedonia”, said Thaçi.
In this spirit, President Thaçi has said that Kosovo considers the achievement of the agreement between Macedonia and Greece regarding the official name of the Macedonian state a historical achievement.
According to President Thaçi our region, our people, are becoming a positive example of overcoming the past and building sustainable peace.
