Prishtina, June 4th, 2018 – President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, has submitted today to the EU authorities the exchange of letters with the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy , Federica Mogherini, which express the conclusion of EULEX’s current mandate.
Letter has been received by Kenneth Deane, Civilian Operations Commander, PPSN, and the EULEX Head of Mission, Alexandra Papadopoulou.
The contents of the letter have been negotiated between both Kosovar and EU sides, and foresees the conclusion of the executive mandate and the reduction of the role of EULEX into a monitoring and advisory role during the mission conclusion stage.
“It is a valuable decade for Kosovo” said President Thaçi at the meeting, adding that “Kosovo’s institutions have benefited a lot from the cooperation with EULEX”.
“In appreciation to this cooperation, today we have managed to increase the local capacities to fully be able to take over the responsibilities in the rule of law sector”, said the President.
President Thaçi also pointed out that “EULEX was a successful mission and it is an experience from which EU can draw valuable lessons in the future, for any other similar missions”.
