President Thaçi receives the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations

Prishtina, 1 August 2016 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, received today the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Zahir Tanin, with whom he discussed the cooperation of institutions of the Republic of Kosovo with the Office of the Special Representative on issues of mutual interest.

President Thaçi said that Kosovo is grateful for the role that the United Nations has played in Kosovo after the war and recalled that the process of declaration of independence was launched by the United Nations, based on Resolution 1244, and has been conducted within the United Nations, which has also appointed its Envoy, President Martti Ahtisaari, to lead the process.
 
“We can no longer go back to the time pre-2008, before the declaration of independence”, President Thaçi said, adding that now is the time for a new quality of cooperation with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and with the United Nations.
 
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Zahir Tanin, expressed satisfaction with the cooperation with the Kosovo authorities and said that “we should be constructive in seeking cooperation of mutual interest”.
 
“We are the bridge between Kosovo and the United Nations”, Zanin said.
 
President Thaçi said that there is a range of topics of interest to Kosovo and the region in which the Special Representative of the Secretary-Generaland his team can contribute, such as the issues of missing person and the fight against terrorism.
