President Thaçi met with President Juncker, they called to vote the demarcation

Brussels, February 09, 2017 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, was received today by the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, with whom he discussed about all issues of mutual interest in the relations between Kosovo and the European Union.

“Being aware that there is no more important and more urgent issue for Kosovo and our citizens than ending the unfair isolation of our citizens, my focus was on the completion of the visa liberalization process”, said President Thaçi after the meeting.

On the other hand, President Juncker, who is a supporter of the European perspective for all Western Balkan countries, has shown willingness to conclude this much prolonged process. But, the President of the European Commission, has made it clear that it will be impossible for him to conclude this process if the Assembly of Kosovo fails to ratify the agreement on the marking of the borderline between Kosovo and Montenegro.

President Thaçi said that for the EU it is incomprehensible how it is possible that the Kosovars desire and require the visa liberalization so many, whereas their representatives, the MPs of Kosovo, disable the visa free movement of their citizens, by not voting this agreement.

“This situation is totally absurd and unacceptable and all Kosovo MPs are responsible for this unfair isolation. Therefore, I once again call, on behalf of the citizens of Kosovo, to put the interest of Kosovo and our citizens before their personal interests and the interests of their parties. Their vote in favor of the ratification of the agreement on demarcation puts an end to the unfair isolation of Kosovo”, said President Thaçi.

During the two-day visit to Brussels, President Thaçi met with the highest leaders of the European Union, from whom he has received support for the European perspective of Kosovo.
