President Thaçi: Kosovo’s flag will wave at Tarragona, Spain

Prishtina, June 20th 2018 – President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, ceremonially has given the Flag of Kosovo to the Kosovo Olympic Team, which will for the very first time represent Kosovo at “Tarragona 2018” Mediterranean Games, held in Tarragona, Spain.

President Thaci said that the number of our sportsmen and women participating at international games is increasing constantly.

“For the very first time we are officially being represented by 40 athletes, 13 trainers and 4 referees” said President Thaci and added that “from 4-5 previous representatives, we have reached 40, and the number shall certainly be larger next time”.

The head of state said that the Flag of the republic of Kosovo will wave at the opening and closing ceremony of these games.

The symbol of our state will be elevated high by the number of their, our, victories”, said President Thaci.

The Chairman of the Kosovo Olympic Committee, Besim Hasani, said that beyond the pleasure at the receipt of the flag today, is the sense of pride that our flag will wave in Tarragona.

“The athletes have worked hard for preparations and they will give their best during these games” said Hasani.

“From the depth of our hearts we want to thank you for permanent support and we promise that will try to represent Kosovo in the most dignified manner and to raise the image of the Republic of Kosovo as high as possible”.

Speaking on behalf of the athletes, the multiple world champion in Judo, Majlinda Kelmendi, said that she feels well for the fact that a large number of athletes will participate at the Mediterranean games, compared to the number of participants in Rio Olympic Games.

“It is an exceptional pleasure for me to accept the flag” said Majlinda Kelmendi, and expressed her trust in the fact that our athletes will properly represent their state at their first Mediterranean Games”.

President Thaçi wished the best of luck to all the athletes competing at the “Tarragona 2018” Mediterranean Games.
