Prishtina, June 29th – President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, attended today the reception organised by the Embassy of the United States of America in Prishtina, in honour of July 4th, the Independence Day of the United States of America.
President Thaçi said that in Kosovo, the 4th of July celebrations are always a special and very emotional event.
“Many fellow citizens understand and celebrate this day, as if it would be a Kosovar state holiday. This feeling is understandable to Kosovars, for the people and to the most pro-Americana state in Europe and beyond”, said the President.
According to him, our freedom, our values, are incarnated in those of the American people. The head of state has potentiated the American model, built upon the individual freedoms, cohabitation of various nations and communities, separation of powers and accountability, rule of law and order, which are by now universal values of the democratic countries all around the world.
“Kosovo has accepted these values and with determination is working towards achievement of our strategic aim to become part of EU, NATO and why not, part of UN”, pointed out President Thaçi.
He added that Kosovo is on the right path to achieve this aim, but the expansion of reforms in our country, in the area of rule of law and order, economy, education, healthcare, will ease this journey.
According to the President, the main obstacle during this journey, is the necessity for the achievement of the final agreement on normalization of relations with Serbia.
“This very necessity, makes this dialogue unavoidable and determinative for our Euro-Atlantic future” added the President.
President Thaçi emphasized that this preeminent aim, required responsibility from all state institutions, parliamentary political parties and civil society. He also said that Kosovo is blessed to, as in all important processes so far, have the unreserved support of the USA, of EU and of all our partners, who want to see Kosovo and the region in permanent peace.
“Therefore, there is no better way for us then to, the valuable help which we get form our friends, cherish and respect through engagement for peace, good neighbourliness, as obligatory preconditions for Euro-Atlantic integrations”, said President Thaçi.
At the end, President Thaçi, on behalf of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, congratulated the American people on the Independence Day and reconfirmed the determination to the preservation of special relations with the United States of America, the eternal friendship and our alliances in values and principles which unify us.
