President Thaçi in Tirana: Without Albania’s contribution, Kosovo would not be free and independent

Tirana, June 14, 2019 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, on the 20th Anniversary of the liberation of Kosovo, today in Tirana has awarded about 50 personalities who have contributed to the freedom of Kosovo.

President Thaçi said that the contribution of the Albanian state, of all the citizens of Albania to the freedom of Kosovo has been very great.

“We started these days of the celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Kosovo’s freedom together with international friends, with the messages of President Clinton, the messages of United States officials about the progress achieved in Kosovo, about the joint local and international success story,  and also about the guarantee of further continuing with progress, development, with Euro-Atlantic values and with Kosovo as an independent and sovereign country, as an extraordinary contributor to peace and stability throughout the Western Balkans, with a clear vision of being in the near future part of NATO, the European Union, the UN and always in special reports with the United States of America”, said President Thaçi.

Even from Tirana, President Thaçi again expressed utmost gratitude to the United States of America, to NATO and all the other partners that have helped to the freedom and independence of Kosovo.

“One thing is clear, without the role of the Kosovo Liberation Army, without the armed resistance of the freedom fighters, of the girls and boys of Kosovo, who influenced the mobilization of the people of Kosovo, to unite as never before in history, we wouldn’t have this freedom and we wouldn’t have the NATO intervention. You know, we have often had uprisings, but our uprisings were local and without any clear political vision and without the support of partners. This time, the KLA united the people of Kosovo, the KLA united all Albanians wherever they lived, whether being it in Albania, Macedonia, Presheva, Montenegro or in the diaspora. Be certain that when the Albanian nation united about the war of the Kosovo Liberation Army and of the people of Kosovo for freedom, then the internationals were also set in motion and here we have witnesses of these commitments, the worthiest representatives of this national commitment to the freedom, to the independence of Kosovo. Therefore, I express gratitude to each and every one of you personally for the extraordinary and diplomatic, political, military role, and of all segments that have influenced the world to support us even more”, added President Thaçi.

The Head of State has said that we have to be grateful to the world for helping us, but also to be aware of what happened, because we managed to put NATO in motion for the first time, and this wouldn’t have happened without the contribution and the dignified role of Albania.

“Therefore, without the role of Albania, Kosovo wouldn’t be free, it wouldn’t be independent. Likewise, that, even now, without the support of Albania, our journey to NATO and the European Union will be very difficult. Therefore, we were together in the heaviest times for our nation, for the freedom and independence of Kosovo and I am convinced that we will have a common path for both NATO and the European Union, with full support of Albania”, said President Thaçi

The President of the state, Hashim Thaçi, at the end has expressed gratitude and acknowledgement to every Albanian family in the Republic of Albania.

“I express gratitude and recognition to every Albanian family who opened the door, opened the heart to Albanians from Kosovo, who were forcefully displaced by Slobodan Milosevic’s ethnic cleansing, when he committed genocide in Kosovo. I would like to thank each and every one of you who told the truth wherever you had the opportunity, from the institutional responsibilities you had, either in institutions, in the media or in diplomacy. You were together with us in Rambouillet, you were together with us during the NATO bombings, you were with us in operational support for Kosovo’s freedom fighters”, he said.

“Thank you, Albania. Thank you to the people of Albania for their contribution to the freedom and independence of Kosovo!”, concluded President Thaçi.
