President Thaçi in Sofia: The rapidity of EU membership, depends on our work

Sofia, March 01 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi developed a bilateral meeting today in Sofia with the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Boyko Borissov, who has invited the leaders of the Western Balkans and the heads of the European Union in a joint working meeting today.

At this meeting there was discussed about the deepening of the bilateral cooperation between the two states and the strengthening of the European perspective of Kosovo and the whole region.

President Thaçi thanked Prime Minister Borissov for his personal commitment to equal inclusion and treatment of all Western Balkan states and their perspective for EU membership.

The two leaders agreed that the new EU Enlargement Strategy for the Western Balkan states is a real opportunity, which should be exploited by all aspiring states.

“We are aware that the rapidity of the membership of the Western Balkan states will depend on the ability and quality of meeting the reforms by the aspirant states, but above all on the ability to overcome the inter-state problems”, stressed President Thaçi after the meeting.

On the other hand, the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Boyko Borissov has said that he will continue to support Kosovo on its path towards the European Union, because the membership of all Western Balkan states in the EU brings stability, cooperation and well-being to all.

At the end of the meeting, President Thaçi stressed that Kosovo remains committed to the achievement of a binding legal agreement with Serbia, which implies full normalization of inter-state relations.
