Monte Carlo, December 13, 2019 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, is staying in the Principality of Monaco, where he is participating in the annual international forum “Peace and Sport”.
Thanking Prince Albert for the hospitality, President Thaçi at the opening of this forum spoke about the successes marked by the talented girls and boys of Kosovo in various sports, raising our flag in every corner of the world.
The Head of State has mentioned Majlinda Kelmendi, who brought to Kosovo the Olympic gold medal, from our country’s first participation in the Rio Olympics.
President Thaçi also spoke about the many victories and the wonderful game that the Kosovo National Football Team has developed during the qualifications for the European 2020 Championship.
“Kosovo has had a difficult journey. Our youngsters had to play their games in the mud instead of green fields, to remove the mud in the river instead of showering, and to flee and hide from Serbian police. Thanks to the support of our friends and allies today we compete in the international arena. Kosovo today stands behind the values promoted by sport, fair play, equality, friendship and peace. Today, we are committed to peace in order to never have war, but to compete with one another in peace”, President Thaçi declared.
The Head of State added that sport has the power to unite people when politics has failed to do so, and has expressed the hope that these messages are passed on to future generations to live in democratic values, peace and tolerance.
