President Thaçi convenes the Consultative Council on Communities: Communities are Kosovo’s wealth

Prishtina, May 30th 2019 – The President of the country, Hashim Thaçi, convened today the Consultative Council on Communities.

President Thaçi congratulated the members of the Consultative Council on Communities for its continuous engagements on improvement of the legal framework, for the promotion and better protection of the rights of communities.

“I commend and thank you for continuously raising the concerns of the communities of Kosovo. As the President of the country I support your work and I am pleased with the cooperation you have built to date. It is my priority to encourage the internal dialogue in Kosovo. This is also valid for the dialogue between the communities of Kosovo, as the best way to advance and protect the rights of all communities,” said the President.

These days, as we mark the 20th anniversary of the NATO intervention and when we remembers the victims of two decades ago, President Thaçi pointed out that   we have all become more aware of the tragedies brought by war and conflicts.

“This makes us more determined and adamant in the dialogue between all of our communities, which are Kosovo’s wealth. Forums, such as this one, are the pillars of peace and stability building in the region. The pillars which make Kosovo a common home for all its communities,” said the President.

President Thaçi stated that he is closely watching the situation of all the communities in Kosovo.

“Yesterday I had the pleasure to attend the opening of the Development Centre of the Montenegrin community in Kosovo. I have also had the pleasure to receive you in my office or visit you on national days of each community. The message which stems from all these meetings is that Kosovo is a home to all of its communities. And that all the institutions of the state of Kosovo are dedicated to the supporting and promotion of all of its communities,” said President Thaçi.

Reading the Progress Report published yesterday, President Thaçi said that the part concerning the human rights states that there is considerable improvement in building of the legal infrastructure.

“Our focus must now be on the improvement of the implementation of this infrastructure. I call upon you to play an active role in the monitoring, reporting and implementation of all the provisions which guarantee the common rights in Kosovo,” added President Thaçi.

Members of the Consultative Council on Communities, also informed the President with the achievements and concerns of their respective communities.

“Security and economic development ware the main concerns of all citizens,” was their conclusion.

President Thaçi welcomed the contributions provided by the members of the Council members and called on them to continue with the contribution.

“Kosovo is the home which we are building together,” concluded President Thaçi.

At the meeting with the members of the Consultative Council on Communities, the head of state strongly condemned the attack on a woman in Lipjan, who was unfairly reported in the media to be involved in criminal activities.

“There is no place for violence and attacks in Kosovo as well as no pace for prejudice,” said President Thaçi.
