President Thaçi: By defending the Constitution, we defend the Republic

Prishtina, October 25 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, attended today the solemn ceremony of the 8th Judicial Year of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo.

On this occasion, President Thaçi said that during these eight years of work, the Constitutional Court has shown that it is completely independent in the performance of its responsibilities, in the defense of constitutionality.

He said that the functioning and efficiency of the Constitutional Court should be taken as a model of the functioning of the judiciary in our country by other levels of the judiciary as well.

“Today, as we celebrate the eighth anniversary of the establishment of the Constitutional Court, I also want to mention the enactment I made yesterday of the forty judges and thirteen prosecutors from the non-majority communities in the Republic of Kosovo”, adding further that this event marks the consolidation and strengthening of our sovereignty.

“This event marks the advancement of the implementation of all agreements arising from the Brussels dialogue. This fact proves how important and necessary the dialogue has been, is and continues to be”, continued President Thaçi.

The Head of State among others spoke about the stretching of legality throughout the entire territory of the Republic of Kosovo, considering this week as a special week, he affirmed “In this regard, I consider that this week is special for the Republic of Kosovo, since the State of Kosovo is being built upon the constitutional principles, the principles of all-inclusiveness, equality and freedom of each individual to accomplish himself/herself and seek his/her happiness without ever letting their rights being violated to be part of Kosovo society”.

He also spoke about the great role the judges and prosecutors have in the lives of  the citizens, in realizing their rights and in ensuring the equitable access to justice, regardless of their gender, race, religion , national, and any other distinction. “Dear judges and prosecutors, there is a great responsibility on your shoulders, a responsibility that I have full confidence you will know how to keep and the citizens of our country will feel secure and equal before the law”, continued President Thaçi.

President Thaçi said that the implementation of the Constitution is essential for our state, knowing the values it has.

“The Constitutional Court as an independent body must continue to play its role in the protection of the constitutionality and the final interpretation of the Constitution. You, with your work, have the obligation to protect our constitutional order, and you continue to fulfill this obligation with professionalism and dignity”, stressed President Thaçi.

He further said he hopes that in the coming months, as in all justice institutions in Kosovo, all authority will be transferred to the locals, because according to President Thaçi, Kosovo is proving that it has built the full professional and credible justice capacities.

“I congratulate you for everything you have done, in the service of our state, and invite you to continue to be guardians of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, because by defending the Constitution you defend the Republic, defend the citizens and defend the institutions”, stressed President Thaçi .
