President Thaçi asks the Holy See to recognise Kosovo

New York, September 24th – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, under the proceedings of the United Nations General Assembly, held a meeting today with Pietro Parolin, State Secretary of the Holy See.

President Thaçi initially thanked the Holy See has provided to the people of Kosovo before and after the war.

He stated that formal recognition of Kosovo by the Holy See would crown the whole of its engagements for peace and stability in western Balkans and in Europe.

“People of Kosovo has always been led by the values of Saint Tereza, values such as tolerance, peace and cohabitation. We are grateful for the support that the Holy See has given to the people of Kosovo. The sole thing that is left is the recognition from the Vatican,” added President Thaçi.

President Thaçi informed Secretary Parolin on religious harmony in Kosovo, on the cohabitation between communities, values upon which the state of Kosovo is built.

The Secretary of State of the Holy See, Pietro Parolin, said that the Holy See is dedicated to peace, tolerance and stability in Kosovo.

As part of the proceedings of the UN General Assembly, President Thaçi will continue with meetings with representatives of the countries participating at this event.
