The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga met today with the Special Representative of the European Union (EU) in Kosovo, Mr. Fernando Gentilini. Mr. Gentilini congratulated the President on her election and stressed that Kosovo, and the region as well, will enjoy the support of the EU for the European future.
President Jahjaga stressed the importance of the consolidation of the EU presence in Kosovo and the removal of the reference of Resolution 1244 on Kosovo. She said that Kosovo as soon as possible should be granted the contractual relationship with the EU and that the visa liberalization process to begin as soon as possible, which would have the effect of speeding up internal reforms.
President Jahjaga discussed with Mr.Gentilini about the benefit of the close cooperation of EULEX with the institutions of Kosovo, which will guarantee the success of this mission.
Related to the technical dialogue between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia, President Jahjaga said that the solutions must be European, in conformity with the Acquis Communautaire. She said that the dialogue must bring both countries at the same time closer towards the EU.
President Jahjaga also invited the EU to support Kosovo to become a member of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and emphasized the commitment of the Institutions of Kosovo in the advancement of the European agenda of our country.
