President Jahjaga received Mr. Bjorn von Sydow

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga received today the Rapporteur of the Political Affairs Committee of the Council of Europe on the situation in Kosovo, Mr. Bjorn von Sydow.

President Jahjaga informed Mr. von Sydow with the developments in the country and said that Kosovo is aiming to meet all the standards for membership in the Council of Europe and all other international and regional organizations.

She said that the stability, democracy and prosperity throughout the region are a clear vision of Kosovo and assessed that all countries must respect and implement the European standards.
President Jahjaga said that the disagreements in the Balkan region must be resolved through dialogue, mutual respect and respect for territorial integrity of each country.

She said that the stabilization of the situation in northern Kosovo will help the citizens of the Serb community and assessed that the barricades or partition of Kosovo are not the path of European integration.

President Jahjaga said that Kosovo as a civic state desires the inclusion of all communities in the construction of a democratic society.

The rapporteur of the Council of Europe for Kosovo, Mr. Bjorn von Sydow, showed his interest in the developments in Kosovo in all fields particularly in the field of human rights and community rights.

He said that Kosovo has a young population with a great potential and it needs larger economic development. He said that Kosovo has made important steps, but stressed the need for reforms in various fields.

Mr. von Sydow also showed interest about the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia on practical issues of mutual interest and assessed that both sides should show more commitment to find common solutions.
