The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga, was received today in Washington by Ms. Beth Tritter, Vice President of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), a US independent foreign aid agency, established by the US Congress in 2004.
President Jahjaga and Vice President Tritter discussed about the possibility for Kosovo to benefit from the assistance of MCC.
President Jahjaga informed Ms. Tritter that since February of this year the Office of the President has taken over the coordination of the local institutions, the international organizations and the Kosovo Embassy in Washington, where a considerable work has been made to improve the indicators of the policies requested by MCC. President Jahjaga expressed confidence that the progress until now will reflect positively in the selection of Kosovo to benefit from the assistance of MCC.
Vice President Tritter thanked President Jahjaga for her personal commitment to achieve the partnership between Kosovo and MCC. She stressed that she is extremely satisfied with the level of cooperation that MCC has had with the Kosovar team this year and the progress achieved within a very short time in the improvement of indicators. Vice President Tritter informed the President that the results of the candidate countries will be published by end October and the final decision for the establishment of the partnership is taken by the Board of this agency in December of this year.
Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) since its establishment has supported reforms in many transition countries with tens of millions of dollars in grants. The selection of the countries to benefit from the assistance of MCC is based on a strict and innovative procedure of the performance of the countries in 20 different policy indicators, such as: good governance, economic freedom and investing in citizens.
