President Jahjaga met with the Minister for Strategic Affairs of Brazil, Mr. Marcelo Cortes Neri

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, met today with the Minister for Strategic Affairs of Brazil, Mr. Marcelo Cortes Neri, with whom she discussed the issue of recognition of the independence of Kosovo.

President Jahjaga said that Kosovo in six years of its independence has achieved to consolidate its statehood o the international stage and is recognises by 106 UN member states, is building a democratic and all inclusive state and is a factor of peace and stability in the region of South Eastern Europe.

President Jahjaga added that independence of Kosovo was a long and difficult process, conducted under special circumstances, which is today proving to be a joint success of its citizens, its institutions and of the international community, also confirmed by the verdict of the International Court of Justice.

Madam President stated that Republic of Kosovo aims to gain full membership into international organisations, primarily EU, NATO and UN. She added that recognition of the independence of Kosovo is important to our country as  it contributes to its international consolidation and promotes peace and stability not only in the Balkan region but beyond it.

She potentiated that a number of countries of Central and Southern America, Brazil being one of them, have not as yet recognised Kosovo, and emphasized the importance for this countries to evaluate their position on Kosovo.

Minister of Strategic Affairs of Brazil, Mr. Marcelo Cortes Neri, stated that his country is closely observing the developments in Kosovo and the Balkan region and said that he will convey to Madam President the arguments of Kosovo for its recognition.
