Today, the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga handed family Konushevci the Order “Hero of Kosovo”, with which the hero of the nation Ilir Konushevci is decorated for acts of courage for the freedom and independence of Kosovo.
The order “Hero of Kosovo” was awarded to Ilir Konushevci by former President Fatmir Sejdiu on May 12, 2009, and was handed to his family today by President Jahjaga, on the 42nd anniversary of the birth of Ilir.
During the meeting with the family members of Ilir, President Jahjaga said that Ilir was a leader and fighter who projected and realized the national resistance projects on his own.
He is not only an inspiration for the generations to come after him, but he was also inspiration for his fellow soldiers. He had chosen the path of struggle for liberation, not because it was an easy way, but it was the right path, she said.
Today, the heroism of Ilir, of his comrades, and of many girls and boys in Kosovo, on the various stages of our history, serve as basis for going forward. And going forward is the support of the values of individual and collective freedom, of peace, acceptance and the creation of a democratic society with equal opportunities. This is the right journey of Kosovo and in this journey we will support each other, and will remember with gratitude those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our motherland, said President Atifete Jahjaga.
The decision for the decoration of Ilir Konushevci with the Order “Hero of Kosovo” is taken on the basis of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo, article 48, section 28, and based on the Regulation on Decorations and Honorary Titles of Kosovo which gives the President of Kosovo, and their Award Procedures, Articles 3, 5, 24 and 49.
The order “Hero of Kosovo” is given to historical Albanian and Kosovar figures, of modern times, from the League of Prizren and onwards, and the citizens of Kosovo who have done acts of courage for the freedom and independence of Kosovo.
