President Jahjaga attended the opening of the conference “Frontiers in Development”

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga, attended today the official opening of the conference “Frontiers in Development” organized by USAID, held at Georgetown University in Washington, USA.

In the panel where it was discussed on development, security and democracy, President Jahjaga was together with the President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the President of Malawi, Joyce Banda, the UNDP Administrator, Helen Clark, and the former President of Ireland, Mary Robinson.

President Jahjaga spoke about the processes through which Kosovo has passed and is passing, about the process of the reconstruction of the country after the war ended, the one of state building and democratization of the country, the issue of security and the fight against corruption and organized crime as well as on the role of women in society. She also spoke about the international assistance in various processes for the country, then on the global challenges and their reflections in the country.

Admiral James Stavridis, commander of the southern wing of NATO and the U.S. Ambassador on global women’s issues, Melanne Verveer are also taking part in the conference.

The conference organized by USAID will continue its proceedings for two days and the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga, this afternoon will hold the main word on the development, democracy and global security in the XXI century.

President Jahjaga will also address the participants on the topic of the development of societies in transition.
