Prishtina, October 18th 2018 – President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, bestowed today the “Merited Citizen of the Republic of Kosovo” title on Vasfije Krasniqi-Goodman.
President Thaçi said that the survivors of sexual violence require the support of the whole of our society.
He also pointe dour that one of the greatest pain of ours are the cases of rape of around 20 thousand Albanian women and men by the Serbian military and paramilitary forces.
“Today is one of the most horrendous moments of my life. To me, Vasfije is a living heroine. I thank her for the exceptional bravery and courage shown through her disclosure of the truth of what happened in Kosovo during the 1998 -1999, for the genocide, ethnic cleansing, murders and rapes. It is a unique case and a tale which calls upon the conscience of the international justice, because the truth is being said, but justice is not being applied”, said President Thaçi.
The survivor of the sexual violence during the war in Kosovo, Vasfije Krasniqi–Goodman, on behalf of all violated women, thanked President Thaçi for the support and the award, and asked for legal protection and for justice.
President Thaçi said that our nation has lived through very difficult moments during the war period, in cases of tragedies and massacres committed by the Serbian police and military on the civilian population.
