President Atifete Jahjaga visited Prizren Municipality

President of the republic of Kosovo, Mrs Atifete Jahjaga visited today the municipality of Prizren where she was received by the chairman of this municipality, Mr Ramadan Muja.

While in Prizren, she also met with the members of the communities who are working towards the gender equality and equality between the communities, and discussed with them various projects related to the advancement of the position of women and communities.

During the meeting with the chairman Muja and local leadership of Prizren, in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister and Local Administration Minister, Mr Slobodan Petrovic, President Jahjaga stated that Prizren is a well known multi ethnic and multi religious city, where, over many centuries, different cultures have lived next to each other and have thus created a very specific prizrenian mentality of tolerance and understanding.

President Jahjaga stated that Prizren is a symbol of life lived together, of tolerance, understanding and of intertwining of cultures and traditions that have continuously been promoted in this city. Prizren tradition in a way reflects all the values that Kosovo has, all of them values of a democracy.

There are considerable Turkish, Serbian, Bosniac, Roma, and Ashkali and Egyptian communities in Prizren, fully integrated. The new Mamusha Municipality has been established not far from here, as a good example of decentralisation and delegation of competencies from the central level to the local one, said President Jahjaga.

President Jahjaga said that it is her position, that following from the next municipal elections, in each municipality, a woman must take the post of the vice-chair of the municipality.

During her talk with the Prizren municipal leadership, Madam President said that Kosovo, after the ending of the supervision of its independence, will concentrate towards economic development, thus enabling a more general progress and attraction of foreign investments and regional cooperation.

Prizren could be a good example for all these processes, as it has a tradition, trained people and a spirit of competition and entrepreneurship.

During her visit to Prizren, President Jahjaga visited the Nenkalaja area and followed with great interest the works toward the repairs of the houses of the Serbian community members in this neighbourhood.

President Jahjaga also held talks with the representatives of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities. She said that she is aware of the difficulties that they face, and offered them her support towards the inclusion into society and their greater contribution. On this occasion, President Jahjaga visited a family from this community, who have just moved into a new house, built for them just recently.

President Jahjaga also spoke with the members of the Bosniac community. During the informal talk with them, President was informed related to their activities and problems that they face.  On this occasion, President Jahjaga visited a family from this community, who have just moved into a new house, built for them just recently.
