President Thaçi for Tiroler Tageszeitung: The process of dialogue is support by the population

26 April 2016 – President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, in an interview published today in the Austrian daily newspaper “Tiroler Tageszeitung”, spoke about the achievements of Kosovo, its priorities, dialogue with Serbia and the Special Court.

Referring to the achievements of Kosovo, President Thaçi said that Kosovo was discriminated for decades and has suffered repression. “In 1999, after the war ended, the war-torn Kosovo in all aspects needed to start to rebuild. Eight years after the declaration of independence, Kosovo signed the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the European Union. It is recognized by 111 countries and it is a member of various international organizations”, Thaçi said.

He was asked about the process of dialogue and normalization of relations with Serbia, for which President Thaçi said that the normalizations of relations, the dialogue and reconciliation have no alternative.

“Both in Kosovo and Serbia, the prime minister who led the dialogue won again in the general elections, indicating that the population supports the process of dialogue”, Thaçi added.

The head of the state reiterated that the process of dialogue needs to be more dynamic to achieve a framework agreement for reconciliation, and, according to him, the same counts for the implementation of agreements that have been reached so far.

Thaçi also addressed the Special Court issue, recalling that he has led the process of its establishment. “I know that the struggle for the freedom of Kosovo was a just cause and a just war. Members of the Kosovo Liberation Army have not violated any laws, except laws of Slobodan Milosevic. The Special Court is yet another opportunity to explain the truth to the world”, President Thaçi said for Tiroler Tageszeitung.

Having assumed the office of the head state, Thaçi said that he will be at the service of all citizens, regardless of their political, ethnic or religious affiliation.

“I will maintain contact with all political parties to build bridges of communication between all the political spectrum”, President Thaçi said.
