Honourable representatives of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo,
Honourable Ambassadors and representatives of the Diplomatic Missions accredited in Kosovo,
Honourable Mr. Borchardt,
Honourable Mr. Žbogar,
Honourable participants;

At the threshold of the celebrations of the fifth anniversary of the declaration of the Independence of the Republic of Kosovo, here tonight, we are bidding a warm welcome to the new head of the EU Rule of Law mission, marking the continuation of activities of one of the largest EU missions. A mission that intends to help Kosovo in its democratic processes that it undertakes while on the journey towards European integrations and the wellbeing of its citizens.

Kosovo is a joint history of its people and institutions on one hand and the international community on the other, a Kosovo that has demonstrated over the years that it is a factor of peace and stability and a promoter of good neighbourliness, not only in the region but beyond as well.

Built upon civic principles, Republic of Kosovo is creating a number of democratic values, values based upon the European values, and at the same time consolidating its institutions and establishing a legal state.

Kosovo, as a new state on the map of Europe, is going through challenges, as other countries did during their times of transition, and we are facing these challenges with a growing strength.

By establishing the basic principles of a legal state, the fight against the negative phenomena in our country, of the organised crime and corruption, has become a priority of our work in order to win this fight. We do not want to leave to the new generations the burden of this responsibility, and our intention to become winners of this fight and in other battles in order to establish the Rule of Law in all parts of our country, is an insuppresable aim of ours. Kosovo is the home of each of its citizens, a state of great opportunities and advantages, where cultural, religious and ethnic diversities have become its values.

Kosovo is an inseparable part of the united Europe, and integration into this large family has no alternative. People of Kosovo, regardless, are united on this intention and will undertake the road towards integration together. Democratic processes in the region and the aim of the western Balkan states to become EU members must be realized together, not by hindering one another but by respecting each other’s independence.

Our journey towards European integration we are undertaking together with the European missions in Kosovo. The help of the EULEX Rule of Law mission is beneficial to the institutions of Kosovo and has already provided results.

EULEX mission has been and will remain a close partner of the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo in endorsement of the law and order. We must continue to act together and with dedication towards building of full capacities and establishment of law and order in Kosovo.

Honourable Mr. Borchardt,

I would like to welcome you to Kosovo and wish you a successful new tenure.

I am confident that you bring the necessary experience and dedication with you, in order to lead the EULEX mission towards completion of its important aim.

Thank You!
