Speech of the President of Republic of Kosovo Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, at the opening of the Bridge Film FestivalI have the honor to attend tonight the opening of the first edition of the International Film Festival, Bridge Film Fest, a unique initiative which aims to promote inter-ethnic tolerance through cultural dialogue.
Honourable Festival Organizers;
I have the honor to attend tonight the opening of the first edition of the International Film Festival, Bridge Film Fest, a unique initiative which aims to promote inter-ethnic tolerance through cultural dialogue.
This visionary initiative of a group of girls from Mitrovica, who represent the nature of the state of Kosovo, a multi ethnic and multicultural state, conveys a clear message of the need to work together in building of the bridges of cooperation, understanding and trust between us, the citizens of Kosovo, so that we dont remain hostage of bitter past, but aim a future in peace, in prosperity and dignity for all the citizens of Kosovo, regardless.
Facing the divisionary and excluding reality of the city of Mitrovica, has incited within the creators of the festival the desire to contribute in building of a reality which highlight the values of the society of Kosovo which we are building, values similar to those of all other societies which have as their foundations the basic principle of democracy and equality among citizens, irrespective of their ethnicity, religion or gender.
This is the reason why the grandiosity of this festival lies with the promotion of cultural dialogue between communities, between the north and the south of the city and the country in general, as a dialogue of mutual understanding and peace. Not only a dialogue between different communities of Kosovo, but enlarging it into a regional cooperation and beyond, demonstrating that diversity is the greatest value of the society which helps in building of the mutual trust and all-inclusiveness.
Bridges serve to join people and to enable them connections with each other. They serve to build common ideal for a developed and democratic country, where each citizen will find the opportunity for a better life and an advanced future. Bridges do not divide people but rivers, they do not divide visions and common ideals, but join the will and the desire for common progress of the common country.
Mostovi ne razdvajaju ljude, vizije i ideale. Mostovi spajaju zzelju i spremnost za zajedniccki napredak u zajedniccku zemlju. Oni sluzze za izgradnju zajednicckog ideala, za jednu razvijenu i demokratsku drzzavu, u kojoj cce svaki gradjanin nacci moguccnost za bolji zzivot i bolju buduccnost.
Mahatma Gandhi has once said: be the change you want to see in this world.
Organizers of this festival are demonstrating the very same thing to us. The change we wish to see can be achieved only by working together, by listening to one another, by taking the responsibilities upon ourselves and by remaining uncompromised and unshaken towards the achievement of our objective.
I congratulate the organizers of this festival, who are by now an inspiration for many girls, not only in Kosovo but worldwide, for their dedication and resilience to building of a society where there is room nly for peace, harmony and understanding between its people.
I wish a lot of success to all the competing films and a very long life to this festival. I am convinced that Bridge Film fest will contribute to the return of the identity of the city of Mitrovica as a cradle of art and culture and a promoter of peace and harmony between people.
