President Jahjaga’s speech at the European Summer Music Academy

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, participated at the European Summer Music Academy concert, held in Prishtina.

At a speech held at the event, President Jahjaga said:

Distinguished professors and students,

Ladies and gentlemen,

I would like to begin this special night by expressing my gratitude to the embassies of Czech Republic, Germany and Austria, international missions and organizations present in Kosovo, the country’s institutions and above all to the men and women whose vision and support have been vital in establishing this important tradition of organizing each year the European Summer Music Academy in Prishtina. I would also like to thank the EU Commissioner Fule for joining us tonight to get a flavor of beautiful things we accomplish when we band together.

This Academy is indeed special as it builds on the culture of music and diversity we have always nurtured and promoted as a country, a tradition which stretches for generations.

Foremost, it is special since all the students and professors regardless of their origin or ethnic background speak in a common language, the language of music – sending a strong message on the values that unite us all as free peoples: The values of tolerance, peace and understanding.

These are the values upon which have built our country and upon which we will continue to build bridges of cooperation and partnerships between communities and nations.

I would like to pay special tribute to the distinguished professors who are offering the students of Kosovo and the whole Europe, a memorable opportunity that allows them to fulfill their passions, explore their talents and succeed in the future.

It is the seriousness, enthusiasm and commitment of these students that has turned this effort into a successful endeavor. It is now left to us to make sure that we continue to offer endless opportunities that will dare them to dream, to move beyond borders and beyond prejudices. For it is only in this way that we will see our societies prosper.

I am confident that this Summer Academy will incite many other similar activities where differences will become a source of wealth and contribute in making us better people, better listeners and of course better musicians.

I would like to leave the place to the wonderful music I had the pleasure to listen to on Monday played by the renowned professors of the Academy, by citing the words of Plato.

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything”. Thank You.
