The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Atifete Jahjaga, was received by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga, along with the Prime Minister Mr. Hashim Thaçi and Foreign Minister, Mr Enver Hoxhaj, were received today at the UN Headquarters by the Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki Moon. This meeting was set on the official agenda of the activities of the Secretary General of the UN.

The UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki Moon, in the long conversation with President Jahjaga, assessed the achievements in Kosovo and the cooperation of the institutions of Kosovo with the international missions in the country.

He said that the coordination of the institutions of Kosovo and the peacekeeping forces KFOR and EULEX in establishing peace in northern Kosovo is of great importance.

Mr. Ban Ki Moon said it is important to establish order and maintain stability in this part of Kosovo. He said that the open issues between the two parties should be resolved through dialogue and that the Ahtisaari plan offers the best opportunities for the Serb community.

The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Madam Atifete Jahjaga, evaluated the cooperation with the UN under the guidance of the secretary general of the UN and in the particular with the UNMIK mission as very good and successful. She said that the joint action of the Kosovo Police with KFOR and EULEX to implement the agreement on customs seals with Serbia proves the partnership of Kosovo with the international community.

She said that with the government’s operational plan in the north, Kosovo is respecting the international documents and it’s Constitution. The President of the Republic of Kosovo said that she strongly opposes the partition of Kosovo and the internal territorial regulation. She said that the Martti Ahtisaari’s Comprehensive Proposal offers the optimal self governance to the Serb community and this community has taken full responsibilities in the local and central government.

President Jahjaga said that the special status for the north of Kosovo would destroy these achievements and would not guarantee integration but would lead to separation. She said that Kosovo wants to establish law and order and normality as well as to bring an end to impunity with the purpose of economic development and the expansion of the constitutionality for all citizens without distinction, who live in the north.

President Jahjaga said that Kosovo is committed to continue supporting the dialogue with Serbia with the purpose to find solutions on Electricity, telecommunications and regional cooperation. She said that this is the only way to normalize relations and to support each other on the path of European integration. She said that the solutions should be based on European standards.

The President of the Republic of Kosovo said that Kosovo is an independent and sovereign state, which has created stability and peace in the region and is respected by its neighbors. She said that Kosovo is dedicated to become a member of the UN and this has no alternative route.
