The President: Domestic producers are the foundation for Kosovo's development

Prishtina, 18 December 2017 – The country's President, Hashim Thaçi, participated in the opening of the new edition of the “Made in Kosova” campaign organized by the Kosovo Manufacturing Club.

President Thaçi said that this campaign is being launched just when we are about to mark the first decade as an independent country and when we start counting the successes of our country over these years.

“Of course, one of the outstanding successes is the increase of domestic production. First and foremost, this is the merit of the domestic producers, the Kosovar entrepreneurs who, with their dedication and creativity, have created the foundations for successful production in Kosovo”, said President Thaçi.

The head of state stressed that institutions have tried to create the best environment for these businesses so they can operate successfully.

“We are aware that there is still much work to be done, but the estimates we get, as the one from the World Bank about the continuous improvement of the business environment, show that we are on the right track”, he said.

President Thaçi further said “If we compare our position today with the position we had two decades ago, we should be proud of our achievements”.

“We have drafted laws and we are strengthening the rule of law to protect investors and businesses. We have built roads and highways. Last week was finalized the agreement for the construction of the new power plant 'Kosova e Re', which will bring over 1 billion Euros of direct investments, energy stability and new jobs. This will positively reflect on the whole economy of the country, but also in the image of Kosovo”, said President Thaçi.

He said that the main investments are those made by Kosovars themselves, i.e. the domestic businessmen.

“You comprise the foundation for Kosovo's development. The sound economy of Kosovo will be built only on the safe foundation you are creating. Moreover, your successes have paved the way for foreign investors. Data on trade exchanges with other countries show an increase in Kosovo's exports. Although it has not yet reached the desired level, there is a positive trend in this regard”, he said.

President Thaçi said that “Made in Kosovo” campaign is informing the buyer both in Kosovo and outside Kosovo about our products, their quality and the opportunities Kosovo offers.

“By informing the Kosovo buyer, we strengthen the position of our products in the domestic market and beyond. In line with strengthening the state of Kosovo, domestic products have also improved. Today, Kosovar products are being compared in terms of quality with the products of the region and the EU. After all, this should be our goal, i.e. to be in the European Union with our products, our quality, our work”, said President Thaçi.

The head of state told domestic producers that opening their doors means opening Kosovo's doors as well.
