The member of the European Parliament, Tanja Fajon congratulates President Thaçi on the tenth anniversary of the independence

The member of the European Parliament, Tanja Fajon has sent a letter of congratulations to the President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, on the occasion of marking the tenth anniversary of the declaration of Kosovo’s independence.

The full letter:

Your Excellency,
Dear President,

I am writing to you on the occasion of the approaching 10th Anniversary of the Independence of Kosovo.

Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend its celebration, taking place in Prishtina on the 18th of February, due to previously agreed engagements.

I take this opportunity to congratulate you and your people on the first decade of your statehood. It was not an easy path and it surely required a lot of courage, strength and patience.

Many challenges remain to be faced before Kosovar citizens obtain what they deserve. And visa free travel is – along with the Dialogue on normalization of relations with Serbia – certainly a priority. I assure you that I will continue supporting visa liberalization for Kosovo in my position as the European Parliament’s Rapporteur. However, in order to be well equipped for this endeavor in the European Parliament, I need clear commitment and strong agreement from the side of Kosovo on two remaining conditions. I sincerely hope I will be hearing good news from Kosovo on this at your earliest convenience.

I wish you and your people many successful next decades, where Kosovo will show mature attitude in the international community, serious Commitment to the European Union membership and friendly and honest attitude in the regional context.

Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.

Tanja Fajon
Member of the European Parliament
