Thaçi met with Chancellor Kurz, seeking support for Euro-Atlantic integrations

Vienna, May 29 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, together with the First Deputy Prime Minister, Behgjet Pacolli, have been received in the Bundeskanlzeramt, by the Austrian Chancellor, Sebastian Kurz.

At this meeting, there was discussed with the Austrian Chancellor about the possibilities of deepening cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic, educational and cultural fields.

“We have excellent relations with Austria in all fields. Austria is one of the main investors in Kosovo”, said the President.

President Thaçi has sought support from the Austrian Chancellor for the acceleration of the European perspective of Kosovo, as Austria will assume the rotating presidency of the European Union.

“Kosovo is committed to sustainable peace, development and rule of law. 2018 is a year of opportunities for the European future of Kosovo and the entire Western Balkans”, stressed President Thaçi.

He said that we welcome the upcoming EU presidency from Austria and expect to continue with the summit practice between the EU and the Western Balkans.

At this meeting there was also discussed about the last phase of the dialogue on the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, a process facilitated by the European Union and supported by Kosovo’s friend states.

“Kosovo is ready for the final stage of the dialogue. We are building a political and social consensus for the dialogue”, he added.

On the other hand, Austrian Chancellor, Sebastian Kurz, has emphasized that Austria is a friend of the region and especially of Kosovo, while welcoming the upcoming EU presidency by Austria and the support for the Western Balkans in the EU.

“We support you on visa liberalization. To advance economic cooperation”, said Chancellor Kurz among others.

At the end, President Thaçi said that the very good relations between the two states must be expanded in economy, education, culture and other fields as well.
