Speech held by the Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo Dr. Jakup Krasniqi at the judges and prosecutors decreeing ceremony

The Acting President of the Republic of Kosovo Dr. Jakup Krasniqi held a speech at the judges and prosecutors decreeing ceremony today in Pristina.

Below you may read the entire contents of Mr. Krasniqi’s speech:

Honorable judges and prosecutors,
I honor you all present here, locals and internationals,
Ladies and gentlemen,

I consider today’s ceremony an important date and moment, not merely for the sake of conducting a formal ritual, an administrative procedure, but, above all, an act of fulfillment in a sector that constitutes a source of state’s equilibrium and functionality: the act of your solemn oath.

In the course of millennia, the history of humankind has witnessed the moral categories of mercy and solidarity, two precious human virtues, but has been deficient in another respect – in justice.

As you know, Justice has often been a tool in the hands of the Strong; it has more than ones been a means of abuse against the week and the powerless; it has more than ones been used as an excessive means of revenge and retribution.

It is not my call now to hold lectures on your field of expertise, but I cannot but think of the fact that the Law, the Justice, constitutes a universe of values that affect all fields of social life. The choice of the scales as a symbol of the work that you and your brothers do around the globe is very meaningful to me.

By striking a balance between the act and the likeliness, or the probable, and by relying on facts, you promote the aspiration for a fair trial, uninfluenced by illicit motives.

Honorable judges and prosecutors,

It is a pleasure and an honor for me to congratulate you today on your solemn oath, and I cannot but recall the glorious motto of the French revolution: liberte, fraternite, egalite (freedom, brotherhood, equality or justice). A trinomial that, more than anywhere else, does an honor to and is needed in a state like Kosovo, our beloved country.

Congratulations and success!
