Sejdiu meets President of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed

The President of Republic of Kosovo, Dr. Fatmir Sejdiu, addressed the World Islamic Economic Forum with a speech today and met with various leaders participating in the Forum. Besides many conversations with representatives of participating states, President Sejdiu had a friendly meeting with the President of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed, whom he has thanked for the recognition of independence of Kosovo by his country.

President Sejdiu also expressed his deep appreciation to his counterpart Nasheed for his personal engagement in the recognition of Kosovo by other countries of the world.

“The people and institutions of Kosovo are highly appreciative of Your engagement in promoting and ensuring a further recognition for our country in the world ”, President Sejdiu said, expressing, on the other hand, the willingness on the part of Kosovo to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries.

At the meeting, the two presidents agreed that it is very important that Republic of Maldives and Republic of Kosovo boost mutual relations. They also opined that it is time to establish diplomatic relations, in order to further cooperation and friendship between the two countries.

On his part, the President of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed assured President Sejdiu that he will maintain his engagement in ensuring a further recognition for Kosovo, especially by the OIC member countries and other countries with which Maldives maintains close relations.

“We take pride in the fact that we were among the first Islamic countries to recognize the independence of Republic of Kosovo, but I assure that we will not stop here, as we will do more to ensure that Kosovo receives further recognitions, strengthens and prospers in every field”, President Mohamed Nasheed affirmed.

In conclusion to the friendly and substantive meeting, the two presidents exchanged invitations for visits to their respective countries.
