Republic of Malawi stages a magnificent reception for President Sejdiu

Republic of Malawi reconfirmed today its strong support to the people and institutions of Republic of Kosovo. Support by this country was reaffirmed today by way of a magnificent reception that the country staged for the President of Republic of Kosovo, Dr. Fatmir Sejdiu, who kicked off his official visit to Malawi upon an invitation by President Bingu Wa Mutharika.

As a matter of fact, upon his arrival at the International Airport of Kamuzu, where President Mutharika himself was heading the hosting delegation, President Sejdiu noticed that a remarkable reception was staged for him by the highest Malawi state institutions and thousands of citizens of this country.

Following the intonation of national hymns of both countries, the two presidents paraded in front of the National Guard and greeted countless citizens and artistic performers who presented the richness and variety of Malawian culture.

It is also worth noting that the entire Lilongwe, the capital of the country, was adorned with Kosovo and Malawi flags and portraits of Presidents Sejdiu and Mutharika. The same spirit of friendship prevailed the special ceremony organized by the Lilongwe City Council, during which the Prize of Honorary Citizen was awarded and the Key to the City was handed over to President Sejdiu.

In accepting this special acknowledgment, President Sejdiu said: “This official visit that I am conducting in Malawi upon an invitation by President Mutharika is of a special importance to us. I am here to convey to you the appreciation of the people and institutions of Kosovo for your decision to recognize the Republic of Kosovo few months ago. I am impressed by an amazing reception that you have staged for me and other representatives of my country present here today. The decision that your town has taken is also a special honor for me. I assure you that we will remain forever appreciative of your support and friendship, on which we are building daily”.

President Sejdiu will have a busy agenda during his first official visit to the African continent. In the afternoon, he will meet, in person, the President Bingu Wa Mutharika, who will host a dinner for President Sejdiu in the evening. On the other hand, tomorrow, President Sejdiu will address the National Assembly of Malawi and meet other senior representatives of the country.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Skënder Hyseni, and the Kosovo Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Mr. Muhamet Hamiti, are accompanying President Sejdiu during the visit.
