President Thaçi: While protecting the Constitution, we protect the Republic

Wednesday, October 26, 2016 - The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, participated today at the ceremony marking the seventh judicial year of the Constitutional Court.

President Thaçi said that, to protect our constitutional order, the creation of an independent body to protect the constitutionality and the protection of human rights and freedoms was more than necessary, which would make the final interpretation of the Constitution and the compliance of laws with the Constitution.

“This duty and these obligations are fulfilled successfully by the Constitutional Court”, said President Thaçi.

The effect of the decisions of this court, in terms of their legal power, according to President Thaçi, is final and can not be subject to review by any other state institution or mechanism.

“The implementation of these decisions, ranging from the President up to all the institutions and citizens of Kosovo, has demonstrated and is demonstrating that the Constitutional Court is one of the largest contributors to the functioning of democracy in Kosovo”, said President Thaçi.

In this manner, he said that we are strongly building the concept of Kosovo as a constitutional state, where constitutional principles are finding expression in the decisions and actions of all state institutions and authorities.

“The maintainance of the reputation and dignity of the Constitutional Court also implies the maintainance of the reputation and dignity of the Republic of Kosovo. While protecting the Constitution you protect the Republic, you protect the citizens and the institutions”, said President Thaçi.

As President of the Republic of Kosovo, he has stressed that the functioning and efficiency of the Constitutional Court should be taken as a model of the functioning of the judiciary in our country from the other levels of the judiciary.
