President Thaçi welcomes launch of the second phase of the program against corruption

Prishtina, May 4th, 2016 – President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, attended today a reception organized on the occasion of launch of the second phase of the program against corruption, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in Kosovo, supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA).

The head of state said that the Office of the President will always be there to help towards the accomplishment of this objective.

Thaçi stressed that Kosovo is getting very good news in recent days and that this is a result of the joint commitment of all the institutions of the republic, all citizens, civil society, the media, all segments of the country.

“I want to emphasize that one of the most important components for the appraisal of Kosovo in regards to the recommendation for visa liberalization has been the progress that the Kosovo institutions have achieved in the fight against corruption, organized crime and other negative phenomena”.

President Thaçi added that “we are aware that we must do more, thus we stand here together to work further on law enforcement, to strengthen our efforts in the fight against corruption and organized crime. We have full confidence that the joint work of local institutions with all involved international partners will be key to our future success”.

The reception was also attended by the host, the representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Andrew Russell, who is also UN Development Coordinator, and Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to Kosovo, Krystyna Marty Lang, who also addressed the audience.

President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi said that he has full confidence that this commitment will have the support of the entire political spectrum in the Assembly and that the partnership between domestic institutions and the whole civil society will grow even more to contribute for a joint approach to strengthening of institutions and increased transparency.

“I am also convinced that we will have a strong partner in the citizens of Kosovo”, President Thaçi concluded.
