President Thaçi travels to the Vatican and Washington

Prishtina, September 26 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, will travel tomorrow to the Vatican, where, on Thursday, he will be received at an audience by Pope Francis.

At this meeting, President Thaçi will thank the Holy Father for the support that the Vatican has given to the people of Kosovo at different periods and for his role in the promotion of peace in the world.

President Thaçi will inform the Holy Father about the political processes in the country, after the creation of the new institutions, about the overall reforms in the sector of economy, education and the advancement of human rights and the rights of the communities.

At this meeting, President Thaçi will also talk with Pope Francis about the creation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the process of normalizing the relations between Kosovo and Serbia aimed at ending the century-long conflict and the reconciliation between the two states and people.

After the meeting with Pope Francis, President Thaçi will travel to the United States of America. At the White House, President Thaçi will be received in a meeting by the Vice President of the United States of America, Michael Pence.

At this meeting there will be discussed about various topics of interest to both of our countries. President Thaçi will request the continuation of the US support for the strengthening of the international subjectivity, for Kosovo’s economic development and the Euro-Atlantic integration process.

President Thaçi will also request the involvement of the USA in the final phase of the dialogue process between Kosovo and Serbia, as a guarantor of peace and stability in the region.
