President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, met today with the President of the Supreme Court, Fejzullah Hasani, the Chairman of the Kosovo Judicial Council Netat Idrizi, and the Minister of Justice, Hajredin Kuçi.
President Thaçi confirmed his support for the work of the judicial institutions. “You have the full support of the Office of the President in the work of the judicial institutions and the preservation of their independence”, President Thaçi said.
He said that that the judicial reform must be continued, to increase the efficiency and also work towards a greater promotion of achievements of the judiciary.
President Thaçi informed the heads of the Kosovo Judicial Council and of the Supreme Court of the initiative to amend the Criminal Code, as a good opportunity to eliminate legal loopholes and weaknesses.
“The efficiency of the judiciary is important for the overall development of Kosovo. It affects the process of Euro-Atlantic integration of the country”, Thaçi stressed.
The functionalizing of the judiciary in the north of the country, judicial capacity building, promotion of new staff to become part of the system wereamong the topics discussed at the meeting.
President Thaçi spoke also about the transfer of competences of EULEX to Kosovo institutions. “KJC and the courts must prove that they are ready to accept the powers and exercise them responsibly towards citizens”, President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, concluded.
