President Thaçi supports the participation of the athletes at the competitions of the International Special Olympics

Prishtina, January 26 - The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, has received today the Vice President of the International Special Olympics for people with special needs, David Evangelista, together with representatives of this Olympiad in Kosovo.

Even though Kosovo is a small country, President Thaçi said that we have distinguished athletes, who have had good representation in various international competitions.

“For the first time we have participated in the Olympic Games in Rio and we returned with a gold medal. I believe that two of our athletes, Medina and Kushtrim, who will be competing in this year’s Special Olympics in Austria, will return with medals”, said President Thaçi.

To the Special Olympics of Kosovo (SOK), which operates as a non-governmental organization, President Thaçi promised that he will be commited to have greater institutional support.

The Vice President of the International Special Olympics stressed that this sports organization is also recognized by the International Olympic Committee and was created in order to transform the lives of people with special needs, integrating them into modern societies.

“We offer a sports program that takes place throughout the year, including the individual training and competing of athletes, in all sports categories”, he said.

Vice President Evangelista stressed that the International Special Olympics has about 4.6 million athletes competing in 26 kinds of summer and winter Olympic sports.

From the Special Olympics of Kosovo (SOK), in this year’s international competitions which take place in Austria, in the skiing sport discipline will participate Medina Surdulli and Kushtrim Veseli.

In Kosovo this organization has about 200 athletes from many cities in Kosovo, who compete domestically and internationally.
