Prishtina, 19 August, 2016 – President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, received today the presidents of the Chambers of Commerce of Kosovo and Serbia, Safet Gërxhaliu and Marko Čadež, who informed President Thaçi on projects implemented by the chambers of commerce of the region to deepen the economic cooperation between the Western Balkan countries.
President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Čadež, briefed President Thaçi on the work of the Chamber of the Western Balkans Investment Forum to contribute to the “Berlin Process” through regional cooperation projects.
“We have brough together various experts to provide solutions to various practical problems, such as telecommunications, postal services”, Čadež said, adding that work is being done to unify certificates of products of Western Balkan countries to facilitate the flow of goods.
President of the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce, Gërxhaliu, said that the essence of this initiative is the commitment to remove barriers to communication through dialogue and cooperation between the economies of the Western Balkan countries and beyond.
“This way we will improve Kosovo’s reputation, but also of the entire region, making our countries more attractive to foreign investors”, Gërxhaliu said, explaing that large global companies see the region as a single market.
President Thaçi welcomed the work of chambers of commerce of the regional countries and said that “usually, the economy grows faster than politics”.
“It is time for a new page in the cooperation of the entire region”, President Thaçi said.
“You will always have our support for your projects to promote cooperation”, President Thaçi added, concluding that “we have many challenges, but the important thing is not to stop”.
